South Africa announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 in in England and Wales starting next month on Thursday. Amla’s selection has been the topic of hot debate. He has been a stalwart at the top of the order for the last decade, but his form in all formats has been called into question in the past year. Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury with Chris Morris coming in as replacement.
Hashim Amla’s experience helped him make the cut while Reeza Hendricks and Chris Morris missed out. Dale Steyn, who recently made a comeback into regular action for South Africa after resolving long-standing injury issues, has also been included in the squad. Rassie van der Dussen, who only made his debut for the side in January but averages 88.25 from his eight ODI innings, was chosen ahead of Reeza Hendricks, while Test opener Aiden Markram also gets the nod on the back of some excellent domestic form.
